DJ Kawon Presents Boombap Alumni (Tape)

Boombap Alumni is a full-length producer album crafted entirely by DJ Kawon, bringing together a diverse roster of lyricists over a cohesive, hard-hitting soundscape. Drawing inspiration from landmark hip hop compilations such as DJ Clue’s The Professional, Violator Records releases, and Funkmaster Flex & Big Kap’s The Tunnel, the album captures the spirit of curated, DJ-led projects that spotlight both beats and bars. Built as a true producer showcase, Boombap Alumni highlights DJ Kawon’s wide-ranging beat-making styles. The project moves seamlessly through raw boombap, abstract arrangements, textured layers, and darker tonal palettes, while maintaining a consistent underground hip hop foundation. Each track is tailored to complement the unique voices and styles of the artists involved. The album features performances from Es, Len-Dor, Travisty The Lazy Emcee, Notes EightyTwo, ED DAV, K Tre, The Bad Seed, Cold Camp, Ace Wonda, Erik Solo, and G Fam Black—each contributing distinct perspectives and lyrical approaches that reinforce the album’s “alumni” concept: seasoned voices and dedicated craftsmen of the culture. Rather than chasing trends, Boombap Alumni stands as a statement piece for hip hop purists—an album that emphasizes beat selection, DJ vision, and lyrical presence. DJ Kawon positions himself not just as a producer, but as a curator, assembling a project that reflects deep respect for hip hop’s past while remaining grounded in the present underground scene.
